On Wednesday, award-winning investigative reporter Deng Fei will speak at Xingwei College. Currently the editor and press department director of The Phoenix Weekly, Mr. Deng has launched several public welfare and environmental projects, including the micro-blog Daguai, the Free Lunch Fund, a welfare fund for serious illnesses faced by rural Chinese children, “Let the Migratory Birds Fly,” and a project to ensure Chinese water safety.

His advocacy and practice have helped to redefine transparency in public welfare, and he has been recognized for promoting the transformation and development of Chinese philanthropy in general. For these and other efforts, he was awarded the distinction of being among CCTV’s “Annual Charity Figures” in 2010.
