--Innovation & Invention
Being innovative requires the ability to combine learning across different areas of experience and academic subjects. While the sparks of insight that drive technological advancement may seem to come out of nowhere, any designer or researcher will tell you advances in science or technology are made possible by the contributions of many others who carefully attend to detail in their investigations of the world. In the Innovation and Invention concentration, students will be granted the opportunity to study the history of science, cutting edge research, investigations into the distant past, studies of the far future, and technological creations that incorporate sustainable environmental practices.
Students in the Innovation and Invention concentration will also have the opportunity themselves to develop as innovators through an internship or culminating research project. Students are actively encouraged to do, research, or demonstrate something that has not been done before. Using theoretical and practical knowledge from the sciences, conceptual rigor from philosophy and mathematics, and ethical concern for a sustainable natural world, students in this program will be positioned to offer creative solutions to difficult problems in our complicated, 21st century society.
Graduates in the Innovation and Invention concentration will be well-prepared for careers in many sectors of the economy, or graduate study in programs involving the development of new technologies and/or creative problem-solving. These include, but are not limited to, the following:
