Leadership is more than management. Leaders inspire, encourage, educate, mobilize, and influence others. Leaders accomplish goals. (Managers? They manage.) Because every organization in every field requires solid leadership, the Leadership concentration draws on a wide range of disciplines in the social sciences, physical sciences, humanities, and business to shape the students who will lead the industries, schools and universities, and small businesses of the 21st century.
The Leadership concentration will give students the opportunity to enroll in traditional business coursework, in areas like management and finance. But it will also draw upon traditional liberal arts disciplines like psychology, in which students can study the uses and misuses of personality profiling in corporate planning. Or philosophy and political science, which might consider the ethical dilemmas faced by leaders throughout history, from Sunzi to Machiavelli to Deng Xiaoping. Or environmental science, where students would lead their peers in community efforts at sustainability projects.
Graduates of the Leadership concentration will leave Xing Wei College prepared to motivate and coordinate others in any field, in any part of the world, from a luxury hotel in Beijing to a government ministry in Australia to a micro-finance NGO in Brazil. Specific careers include:
The Leadership concentration will also prepare students for the best MBA programs, as well as post-graduate study in areas such as economics, marketing, and IT.
