Xingwei College schedules courses in 5-week blocks, with three blocks in each 15-week semester. The courses are therefore more intensive, meeting for two full hours four days each week, and students may enroll in one or two courses in each block (for a total of 5 courses in a semester).
Here’s an example:
|1||ENGL 101||3||MTRF||10:00 – 12:00|
|ENVS 220||1||MTRF||13:00 – 15:00|
|2||SOCI 101||3||MTRF||13:00 – 15:00|
|PHIL 102||3||MTRF||15:00 – 17:00|
|3||MATH 220||3||MTRF||15:00 – 17:00|
Focus. We expect our students to immerse themselves in the subjects they study, not just to prepare for exams. Meeting four days a week in two-hour sessions gives us the opportunity to dig deep in course discussions — to ask one another questions, to challenge assumptions, to explore. Without three or four other classes to worry about, students at Xingwei can spend time reading and researching with fewer distractions.
Very few classes meet on Wednesdays, which are set aside for campus community meetings, off-campus excursions, presentations of research, and a variety of other activities. At Xingwei, Wednesday is “Community Day.”
